I get sound moving out of sync by 50% in 30 seconds in QT Player. mov file, rendered from DaVinci, of the same 4 minute becomes completely unplayable as long as DaVinci is open.
Not only is playback almost unusable, it also holds onto the RAM, affecting everything else. Once the 18GB limit is hit, when we're into heavy virtual memory, things go to hell.
The caches are on those drives, and they are less than 50% full. I'm on a 16GB M1 Mac mini with 3 terabytes of attached spinning drive space where the projects live. The concerns I have boil down to this: FCP/Motion play nice with my system. Quick verdict: I took to it quickly, I love it, and I found it easier to adapt to.īUT, I probably wouldn't be posting this if it had gone well. I actually love FCP, but I hate Motion, so the jump to node-based editing (which I am going to be using in Blender), was an investment that it seemed worth making. I was careful in this choice: it's an in-house/no client job that has simple live video, few cuts, and basic overlay graphics that are mostly bringing text onto the screen to emphasize the speakers' words. I was amazed to see what DaVinci offers, and I decided to do a project using it, that I would otherwise use Final Cut Pro and Motion for. My motivation to change is really my combined aversion to two things: Apple's rather pathetic Motion, and Adobe's unacceptable pricing policies.
